Miller Orthodontics Difference
The Appeal of Clear Braces for North Tampa Patients
Many teens and adults want straighter teeth but are hesitant about the look of traditional metal brackets. Clear ceramic braces offer an excellent middle ground: the proven effectiveness of braces with an appearance that's far more discreet.
The ceramic brackets are designed to match the natural color of your teeth, making them much less noticeable in photos, at work, and in social settings. Many of our North Tampa patients — especially working professionals and older teens — choose clear braces for this reason.
Clear Braces vs Invisalign: How to Choose
Both clear braces and Invisalign offer a more discreet alternative to metal braces, but they work differently. Clear braces are fixed to your teeth (like metal braces) and work around the clock without relying on patient compliance. Invisalign uses removable trays that must be worn 20 to 22 hours per day.
If you want the convenience of removing your appliance for meals and brushing, Invisalign may be your best fit. If you prefer a set-it-and-forget-it approach with no risk of losing a tray, clear braces are a great choice. Dr. Miller can help you weigh the options during your free consultation.
What to Expect with Clear Braces at Miller Orthodontics
Your treatment starts with a complimentary consultation where Dr. Miller takes digital scans and X-rays to map your teeth precisely. If clear braces are right for you, ceramic brackets are carefully bonded to your teeth and connected with a thin archwire.
You'll visit our office every 6 to 8 weeks for adjustments. Each appointment is typically 15 to 30 minutes. Most clear braces cases complete in 12 to 24 months, and you'll receive custom retainers at the end to maintain your results.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are clear braces?
Clear braces use ceramic brackets made from a translucent or tooth-colored material instead of metal. They work the same way as traditional braces but are far less noticeable. The brackets are bonded to your teeth and connected with an archwire to gradually shift your teeth into alignment.
Are clear braces as effective as metal braces?
Yes. Clear ceramic braces use the same mechanical principles as metal braces and can treat the full range of orthodontic issues including crowding, spacing, overbites, and crossbites. Treatment time is comparable to metal braces.
Do clear braces stain?
Modern ceramic brackets are highly stain-resistant. The brackets themselves rarely discolor. The elastic ties (rubber bands) that hold the wire can pick up some staining from foods like curry, coffee, or red sauce, but we replace these at every adjustment appointment.
Are clear braces more expensive than metal braces?
Clear braces may have a slightly higher fee than metal braces due to the premium material, but the difference is modest. Both options are available with our $300 down, $169/month financing plan, and insurance coverage applies equally.
Who is a good candidate for clear braces?
Clear braces are an excellent choice for teens and adults who want effective orthodontic treatment with a less visible appearance. They work well for most cases, though Dr. Miller may recommend metal braces for certain complex movements.
